Capturing the Essence of Experimental Perfume Club in Covent Garden

 

Recently, we had the pleasure of working with Experimental Perfume Club (EPC) in Covent Garden, London. Our goal was to capture fresh imagery that truly reflects the unique essence of their space, process, and customer experience.

From the beautifully curated shelves to the intricate art of perfume blending, EPC offers a sensory journey that we wanted to bring to life through photography and video. Over the course of four hours of photography and two hours of b-roll filming, we worked to craft a collection of visuals that tell the full story of the EPC experience.

The Vision Behind the Shoot

Our approach was built around three key elements:

1. Capturing the Space

A visit to EPC is an experience in itself. The boutique is thoughtfully designed, with an inviting atmosphere and shelves that showcase a unique collection of scents. We wanted our images to allow customers to step inside the store before they even visit - drawing them in with shots of the shop front, styled displays, and the team at work behind the scenes.

2. Bringing the Brand’s Concept to Life

EPC’s approach to fragrance is unique, offering customers the opportunity to blend their own bespoke scents. To highlight this, we focused on storytelling through our visuals - capturing the journey from selecting scents to blending and bottling. These behind-the-scenes shots give a deeper insight into what makes EPC so special.

3. Showcasing Experience Days & Gifting

EPC hosts Experience Days, where guests enjoy a glass of fizz while crafting their own signature scent. Our goal was to create imagery and video content that could be used across multiple occasions, helping to highlight these special moments. From capturing the joy of a customer receiving their finished perfume to detailed shots of gift packaging, we ensured the visuals could be repurposed for seasonal campaigns and marketing materials.

Why This Shoot Was So Successful

A seamless and impactful shoot doesn’t happen by chance. Here’s what made this one stand out:

Pre-Shoot Planning

We spent time understanding EPC’s needs - what had worked for them in the past and what hadn’t. We discussed styling preferences, lighting, and the emotions the images needed to convey. This pre-planning ensured we arrived on the day with a clear vision.

Curated Shot Lists

Every shot was intentional. Martin and Cox curated detailed shot lists, mapping out each scene in advance to ensure nothing was left to chance. This helped us capture all the essential moments while staying efficient with time.

Hands-On Production Support

Jemma, from Martin and Cox, played a crucial role in managing the production of the shoot. Not only did she oversee the flow of the day, but she also stepped in as a hand model and customer model, helping us illustrate the in-store experience from a visitor’s perspective. These small details make a big difference in creating relatable and engaging imagery.
