What's the difference between a Studio shoot and On Location shoot?

If you’re interested in my product photography services, you’ll notice that I offer both studio and On Location shoots. If you’re unsure what this means, this post will help explain!

In Studio Product Photography
Studio photography is perfect if you’re in need of simple set ups, to showcase a new or existing product. Whether you need imagery for your website or e-commerce, products can be posted out to my studio where I shoot them remotely, and are then sent back to you once final images are approved.

Studio product shoots combine elements such as backdrops, surfaces, props and clever lighting to capture your product in a simple but effective set up.

Example of products shot within my studio can been seen below:

On Location Product Photography
On Location imagery is perfect if you want to set the scene, show a product in use, allow the customer to envision themselves using the product or help them aspire to a particular lifestyle. Using a 'heart beat' in the images (a model) helps to tell a story and adds another dimension to your photography. This is also referred to as Lifestyle photography.

If you think On Location photography is what you need for your brand, you’ll need to hire a location and this comes at a separate cost to your shoot (please allocate extra budget when planning). I’ve worked at some beautiful locations so can offer advice when it comes to finding the right place for you. Whilst this kind of a shoot comes with an added cost, location houses have beautiful furniture and are already styled with lots of lifestyle props, so it removes any further work of having to source extra things yourself.

Examples of 'On Location' can be seen below:

I also work closely with a stylist who can help take your images to the next level, by carefully selecting the right props for your brand and curating beautiful scenes to elevate your product (whether that be in my studio or out on a location). If this is something you’re interested in, I can happily give you some further information.

I hope this post has helped you to decide what type of product shoot is most suitable for you. If you have any questions or need further help, just send me an email.
